Literary Fiction: The Untelling by Tayari Jones
Historical Fiction: Mornings in Jenin by Susan Abulhawa
Mystery: Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon

Magical Realism: Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel
Horror: Voodoo Season by Jewell Parker Rhodes
Nonfiction: Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi

Reading Lolita in Tehran had me transfixed. It’s one of those books that I no longer own because when I lend it out it doesn’t come home – about time I bought my third copy I guess 😉

I remember trying so many short stories one year and feeling like there weren’t so many good ones, until I stumbled on that collection.
